One More

Okay, this is something else. Seattle's Brouwer's Cafe had a groovy barrel-aged festival called "Big Wood," wherein all the beers had been aged in wood. (Hey, what did you think?) It was a pretty incredible list, including six from Cantillon, Allagash, Firestone Walker, plus lots from the locals (list here). They hold an audience award, and the winners were announced today. Behold:
1. Hair of the Dog, Bourbon Fred from the Wood
2. (Tie) Hair of the Dog Matt & Port Brewing Older Viscosity
3. Hair of the Dog Bob
This, incidentally, is Bob:
This Beer is named in memory of Robert Farrell Jr. November 1946 - July 2008, gone but not forgotten. It was aged for over three years in an old American oak barrel, originally use for Fred from the Wood. He has matured with Apricots, Cherries and Raspberries for 15 months.
Nice job, Mr. Sprints!

Gee.. Would have liked to see these at the HAF? (At least the HAF the Doc and Jared attended) Jim and Bob may both be gone, but we would have liked to see Bob at HAF. Maybe Oregon needs a "Big Wood" fest? Maybe Pinesol Jim is good enough for the locals and the Pom pom girls? Where is the love Alan? ;-} Already know the answer.... it's OK.

Hey Doc, I thought you were, ah, you know, retired.

It's truly sad to see someone who stuck on themselves at Dr. Wort. He knows all the questions, and in his own mind, all the anwsers. Solution-GO AWAY. Let the bloggers like Jeff, etc. (and others who I won't mention lest you haunt their quality blogs) do what needs to be done, while you wallow away in your self deprecating self-pity. Hey, this isn't your blog so, once again, GOOD RIDDANCE.

ps. don't respond with your lame backhanded humor. Once again, this isn't your blog. Jeff's blog is highly respected until your 'I am the high lord of beer blogging" bullsh*t. GO AWAY.

Some spam is so entertaining that you just have to leave it up.

Just back for a few days... but while I'm out and about, Thought maybe I could address the Anon's of the world.

The Doc has been accused of getting to personal in the past and yet I find another ANON blathering away at the Doc for viewing his opinion.

Want some honest spam to keep up on your blog, Jeff? How about this?

@ANON. I don't care what you like or dislike. I have a 1st Amendment right to speak my opinion. You don't like it? Too bad! Why don't you leave the Blog comments for those who have a comment or debate. You have neither. You just block out what you don't like in life. It's black or white; Good or Evil. No gray area, no interpretation, no evaluation, no debate. You my friend are the one wallowing in you own self pity and a childish stagnation of a higher thought process. Your narrow thought process and singular devotion has a name, many names:

Blind Follower, sheep, backscratcher, backslapper, bootlicker, brownnoser, dependent, doormat, fawner, flatterer, flunky, groupie, hanger-on, lackey, parasite, puppet, slave, stooge, subordinate, toady, yes-man.

This is not any underhanded humor. This is the Doc telling YOU to get a life and learn to accept different views and opinions. You may not like those different view or opinions, but that's part of life. Grow up!

Doc, your indignation is misplaced. When someone hollers 'fire' in a crowded theater just to stir up excitement, he is hardly in a position to complain about being trampled.

Google 'irony' and the re-read your last comment.

Again, criticize, but leaven your comments with respect. You'll find it returned in duplicate.

...and what pearls of wisdom do you have for Anon? OR... are you just saying this guy is trying be a devils advocate? If so, then they got the response they wanted from the Doctor.

@ Zombie-Dr.-Wort

"I have a 1st Amendment right to speak my opinion."

That's not really true. You need to add constitutional law to the list of things you should read up on before you spout off about them.

The first amendment prohibits the Federal government from restricting your expression of your opinion.

It is not a legal guarantee of everyone's right to run their mouth about anything anywhere they want.

Never mind "clear and present danger" speech like shouting fire in a crowded theater; the key thing is that it does not prohibit private parties from restricting speech on their property. It doesn't apply to actions by private parties at all.

It does not protect a student's right to disrupt class, or prevent me from kicking a traveling salesman out of my yard, or a pub owner from sending home a vociferous customer, a grocery store from sending pamphleteers packing, an employe from firing an employee who expresses opinions he doesn't like... or a blog owner from censoring obnoxious commenters on his blog.

It certainly doesn't protect you from other people telling you to reduce your noise so they can hear the signal.

We're talking about public opinions here. We're not talking about a drunk at a bar or a dooe to door salesman. Since when is it acceptable to "CENSOR" our opinions and not allow debate in this country? I'm not yelling "FIRE" in a movie theater.

Jeff can CENSOR or even delete my comments and opinions at any time, but that my cause some intern hypocritical thoughts for Jeff, I think he's pretty liberal, but not a KOOK Ultra liberal who's not willing to listen to someone else's opinion or not shun someones right to speak out in a candid rhetoric.

Either way, I'm sure the men in black won't be knocking on the Doctors door. We are talking about beer here not topics of national security. ;-}

I think this ANON fellow is Jeff's alter-ego anyway. :-O

Since we are talking about First Amendment rights, given the fact I actually teach Constitutional Law and never use the 'my opinions are protected speech' verbiage (which you should reconsider, as slander is not protected speech), I'll just state my opinion-

Dr. Wort, you have no class.

Jeff Alworth said...

I'm not getting in the middle of this except to say that I've never removed a comment except for commercial solicitation spam. I would, if it were especially ugly or racist or something like that. But so far, no one has come close to that level.

slan⋅der

1. defamation; calumny: rumors full of slander.
2. a malicious, false, and defamatory statement or report: a slander against his good name.
3. Law. defamation by oral utterance rather than by writing, pictures, etc.

Since I'm "writing" my comments you would be refering to Libel?

Malicious - Maybe

false - never

Defamatory statement - sometimes

Class - Always. I know the difference between mediocre and quality.

Educated - Berkeley.. You?

@Jeff

SPAM causes tension that makes life interesting. ;-}
