People's Choice Poll

As we start winding back up post-Christmas (hope everyone had a great time), I leave you with the people's choice award, which I'll close down at the end of the weekend. Cheers--

I believe the good folks at Ninkasi have gotten wind of this little poll.

In your original post you said this poll would be for a regular release or regular seasonal release. How do you define "regular" in this case?

Jeff Alworth said...

"Regular" means an addition to the year-round or seasonal line-up. No one-time special releases.

this is dumb. how do you know if it's a "one-time special release" or "an addition to the... seasonal line-up"? The brewers don't even know sometimes.

Ugh. How did the Spring "Butterbomb" Radiant manage to win? I tried that stuff at least a half dozen times and every bottle was too flawed to finish.

I'm sure it was just a case of Ninkasi fans responding to Upright's call to arms, but do people actually like drinking beer that tastes like you licked the floor of a busy theater?

Anon #1,

This is actually not true. Generally brewers know when they release a beer whether they want it to be a one-time beer or a part of the regular rotation. Sales affect these decisions, but I base it on the breweries' plans, not speculation about how sales will affect a beer years down the road.

By the way, I don't know if the last two anons are the same or not, but a gentle note: if you're going to call someone to task (me dumb, Ninkasi bad), would you at least give some indication about who you are. Use a pseudonym at the least so we can track what your views are over time.

If you want to level harsh criticism, you're welcome to do so; show a little spine though, and don't do it anonymously.

I have to admin some confusion about the poll and the definition of "regular-rotation".

1) My understanding was that the Full Sail LTD changed every year, so I'm uncertain how it qualifies.

2) I'm also uncertain why the Upright Six and Seven were omitted (the Seven would have gotten my vote were it on the list).

3) I didn't realize Michael was intended to be a addition to the regular HotD lineup, but this may just be my ignorance. It seems a bit out of place in the list, given that you had to be at the dock sale to buy it (AFAIK).

kscaldef,

1) The LTD series repeats like a seasonal.

2) I could have included a lot of Upright beers, but for the sake of the poll, that seemed like it would split Upright's vote, so I limited the responses to the two most-readily available beers. Upright began to tweet to promote #5, hoping to push one to the top. (Though I believe Ezra tweeted that, and we have had a private disagreement about which is Upright's best!)

3) I exchanged emails with Alan and got the impression that Michael wasn't a single-batch beer. For the purposes of my poll, I didn't demand vast distribution, though between you and me, I hope we see more of Michael in the future.

This is mostly just for fun. I will have a post later discussing the results.

way to 'out' our private disagreement about which of Upright's beers are best.
Anyway my favorite changes with the temperature outside. Four-summer, Seven-fall five-every other part of the year.

Lately I have taken to making blends of the Four and Five, much to Alex's dislike.

Heh. It's like a Blazers fan trying to decide if he likes Brandon or LaMarcus more. The dispute is a most gentle one.

I'd also be happy to see Michael in the regular HotD rotation, so I hope that I'm just misinformed or misremembering.
