The Wrong Beer

This is all terribly wrong:
The makers of Dogfish Head beer love Pearl Jam and their debut album Ten -- both of which turned 20 this year -- so much that they've dedicated a beer to the band.... The brewery describes the beer as a "Belgian-style golden ale [that] is delicately hopped to 20 IBUs and fruit-forward from 10 incremental additions of black currants over a one-hour boil." Which sounds amazing, but perhaps more importantly, the beer is also rock-worthy intense at 7% ABV.
I'll leave aside the inevitable critique that questions the appropriateness of Dogfish Head, a Delaware brewery, making a tribute to a band indelibly linked to a famous beer city across the country. (Or, I guess, not.) The real problem is the beer, which is something perfect for, let's say Tom Jones. Or Serge Gainsbourg. Delicately hopped? Fruit-forward? Has Dogfish ever heard Pearl Jam? Obviously, you gotta go with a CDA here. A roar of screaming hops and deep, troubled dark malt notes.

Delicately-hopped Belgian golden ale with currents. Please.

  2. Bear in mind that this is all based off a relationship between Dogfish head and Sony.

I'm guessing that the Clash will be frambois given the current trend.

I'm really not happy with someone interpreting my relationship with a band with a beer.

  3. I have not been much of a fan of Dogfish Head in the past. Have always felt that they were more show than anything. This seals the deal. Who needs to infuse fruit through the boil? Trying to make sure they get pectin in all stages of formation? What a load of crap.

A CDA would be the perfect commemorative beer for 10.

  4. Don't worry though... According to Calagione, Dog Fish Head doesn't spend money on advertising.

To which I say: Really, Sam? You just made a beer with Google and now your doing one with Eddie Vedder. You might not be paying for it, but your still advertising.

By the way, you beat me to the punch with this one. I was going to write almost the exact same thing! I might be better off though, since I railed on DFH just last week!

  5. That's pretty funny. The PJ beer definitely needs to be a heavily hopped ale. The fish head folks messed up. Oops!

  6. There sure seems to be a lot of beer/band fusion bosh happening all of a sudden. I mean, North Coast has had Brother Thelonious for several years now, but all of a sudden we have:

    DFH/Miles Davis
    New Belgium/Clutch
    DFH/Pearl Jam

    Beer-trend senses tingling...

    Cheers!

You hit the nail on the head there.

    Thank you,

  8. Here's the great thing about beer - you don't like it? Don't buy it, don't drink it.
